Tricare, Tricare-for-Life, & Champva Eligibility
The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) issued a final rule, which grants Tricare, Tricare-for-Life, or Champva eligible FEHB annuitants, survivors, and former spouses the ability to suspend their FEHB enrollment and return to the FEHB program during Open Season, or immediately return to the FEHB program, if they involuntarily lose their Tricare, Tricare-for-Life, or Champva health insurance coverage.
This rule allows those eligible beneficiaries the opportunity to avoid the expense of continuing health insurance coverage and paying for premiums through an FEHB Program while they are using Tricare, Tricare-for-Life or Champva health insurance coverage.
You can find additional information about FEHB eligibility requirements for Tricare, Tricare-for-Life, Champva and other state sponsored medical assistance health programs for federal employees at opm.gov.
Note: Your employing office will determine whether an FEHB annuitant, survivor, or former spouse is eligible for Tricare, Tricare-for-Life, or Champva.
If you have determined that you are eligible for FEHB coverage and you would like to enroll with MHBP, please visit our How to Enroll page for instructions.
